Halil Kaya GEDİK, one of Turkey's first international welding engineers, graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Istanbul Yıldız Technical School, now known as Yıldız Technical University, in 1953. Halil Kaya GEDİK continued his education at the Staatliche Universitat Konstanz, Germany, graduated in mechanical engineering and completed the International Welding Engineering Program of the German Welding Society (DVS).
After working in various departments of the MAN factory during his education in Germany, he came to Turkey in 1957 and started his professional career at the Eskişehir State Railways Factories Welding Group, and in 1960 he took part in the “DEVRİM” project, Turkey's first domestic car.
Since 1963, he continued his work in the private sector in the field of welding and established electrode, casting, valve and welding machine factories respectively. Halil Kaya Gedik, who introduced precision casting technology to Turkey, was the first person to establish the first facility in our country to cast with this method.
Halil Kaya GEDİK, who has played a pioneering role in the growth and development of the Turkish welding industry, has many publications and translated books on welding science and technology. He founded the Gedik Education Foundation (GEV) in 1994 with the aim of bringing international welding engineering education to a wide audience in Turkey.
Halil Kaya Gedik, who has carried out many projects as an education volunteer in addition to his successful industrialist identity, was awarded the “Distinguished Service Medal” by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 2007 for his efforts.
Istanbul Gedik University was established in 2010 to strengthen industry-university cooperation in Turkey and contribute to the training of qualified experts.
Halil Kaya GEDİK, who has the title of Honorary Doctorate from Uşak University, believed in the importance of teamwork with the value he gave to people in his working life. Arguing that everyone should improve themselves by doing business faster and more agile than the previous day, with these principles and his tireless entrepreneurial side, he has made it his mission to create an R&D based infrastructure in order to reduce foreign dependence in terms of technology and information.
Halil Kaya GEDİK, the founder of Gedik Holding and Istanbul Gedik University and one of Turkey's first welding engineers, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.
