The Gedik Education Foundation organized the Welded Metal Sculpture Competition to support the creativity of young artists and bring a contemporary perspective to the art of metal welding. The competition, which brought together university students from all over Turkey, was held with an exhibition and award ceremony.
The Gedik Education Foundation, which is frequently mentioned for its educational and social responsibility activities in Turkey, brought young talents together with art this time. The Foundation organized the Welded Metal Sculpture Competition specifically for university students. The event, held at Istanbul Gedik University Vocational School, concluded with an exhibition and an awards ceremony.
Young People from All Over Turkey Participated in the Competition
Open to associate degree, undergraduate, and graduate students studying at universities across Turkey, the competition aimed to transform metal into an artistic medium using welding techniques. The organization encouraged young people to actively participate in the production process while bringing contemporary and original approaches to metal sculpture art.
The theme of the competition was “Unity.” The welding of different metal pieces together presented a powerful narrative symbolizing solidarity, the power of coexistence, and a culture of collaborative production. The resulting works reflected both the technical and conceptual dimensions of the theme.
Finalists selected by a jury of expert academics and artists completed their works according to the specified schedule. The exhibited works showcased the creativity and technical proficiency of young artists.
The award ceremony held at the end of the competition supported young talents, while the Gedik Education Foundation offered an inspiring platform for young people with its approach that brings art and education together.
Eight Young Artists Received Awards
A total of eight young artists won awards in the competition, with the grand prize set at 70,000 TL. The grand prize of 70,000 TL and the GEKAMAC Power Plus MIG 200 were awarded to Elçin Yaren Çakırlar. Reşit Metehan Acehan won the second prize of 50,000 TL and the GEKAMAC Power Plus MIG 200, while Emirhan Özkök won the third prize of 30,000 TL and the GEKAMAC Power Plus MIG 200. The Jury Special Award, consisting of a cash prize of 20,000 TL and a GEKAMAC Power Arc Pro 200, was presented to Cemre Baysan, while the Gedik Special Award, consisting of a cash prize of 20,000 TL and a GEKAMAC Power Arc Pro 200, was presented to Bahar Posta. The Honorable Mention Awards included a cash prize of 15,000 TL and a GEKAMAC Power Pro Arc 200 for Tuba Aydın, Özden Dursun, and Almila Karay. The competition made a significant contribution to young talents showcasing their technical skills and taking a strong step into the industry.
