Gedik Education Foundation and Istanbul Gedik University proudly represented Türkiye at the 79th IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference on Welding and Joining, organized by the International Institute of Welding (IIW), one of the world’s leading authorities in welding and joining technologies.
Held in Salzburg, Austria, the 79th IIW Annual Assembly brought together leading experts, researchers, academics, and industry professionals from around the world to discuss the latest scientific and technological developments in welding and joining.
As the official representative of Türkiye within the IIW for more than 15 years, Gedik Education Foundation and Istanbul Gedik University continue to contribute to international collaboration, scientific advancement, and the development of welding engineering education.
Scientific and Technical Developments Discussed at IIW Technical Commissions
Throughout the Annual Assembly, the latest scientific and technical developments were reviewed within the IIW Technical Commissions.
As part of the International Conference, two research papers affiliated with Istanbul Gedik University were presented and published.
In addition, the meetings of the International Authorisation Board (IAB) addressed key issues concerning international welding education, including welding engineering programs, training curricula, qualification systems, examination procedures, and international authorization processes.
Halil Kaya Gedik Award Presented to Prof. David Phillips
During the Annual Assembly, the Halil Kaya Gedik Award, established in memory of our Founder, the late Halil Kaya Gedik, was presented to Prof. David Phillips in recognition of his distinguished academic career and his outstanding contributions to welding science and education.
As the first and only international welding award originating from Türkiye, the Halil Kaya Gedik Award continues to recognize and honor distinguished experts whose contributions advance the global welding community.
The award was presented by Hülya Gedik, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
